Formation of Northwest Bend Area Completes Picture of City Mandated Districts
Awbrey Butte Neighborhood Association Elects Officers
Bend, Oregon ---- December 7, 2005
--- The newly formed Awbrey Butte Neighborhood Association
(ABNA), scheduled to be officially recognized by the City of
Bend at the December 7 City Council meeting, completes a vision
created in 2001. When ABNA joins
Bend’s ten existing neighborhood associations, virtually
all residents of the city will be represented by an official
neighborhood entity.
During 1999-2000, the City Council identified the concept of neighborhood associations as a means to improve communication and increase public involvement and participation. The Bend City Council ratified the development of neighborhood associations on July 19, 2001 and established the Office of Neighborhood Associations (ONA). The ONA serves as a bridge of "communication and education" between the City of Bend and recognized neighborhood associations.
Awbrey Butte area residents have been meeting over the
past several months to create and approve bylaws, to elect a
board of directors and to name officers. Serving as president
and vice-president are Leslie Conley and Liz O’Connell,
respectively. Other board members include Valerie Holgers,
secretary, Ian Wotherspoon, treasurer, Rodney Mock, land use
representative, Jim Swarm, traffic and safety representative
and members Jennifer Salari, and Ron Fisher.
The area served by the new association encompasses more than just Awbrey Butte. It includes a region generally defined as: east and south of Bend Urban Growth Boundary, (roughly defined as NW Skyline Ranch Rd.); north of COCC, with Regency, Rimrock, West Hills and Wilmington as dividing lines; and west of the Deschutes River. For a map of the designated area visit the City of Bend website: /Map_of_Neighborhoods/
The ABNA board welcomes input from their neighbors on any issues and concerns they might have. Membership is free, encouraged, and is open to any person 18 years or older, who has resided in the neighborhood for at least 30 days. To join, visit /About_Us/Get_Involved/
