Minutes from SWNA Meetings

BOARD MEETING
– February 20, 2009
Porttello Wine Cafe,
NWX
Meeting called to order 6:31 PM
Attendees: Matt Denney, Chair; Deborah Price,
Vice-Chair; Jerry Price, Secretary Absent: Fletcher Chamberlin,

“Let’s Pull Together”
community noxious weed program scheduled for June 13,
2009
A discussion was held around how neighborhood
associations can contribute towards the upkeep of the
neighborhoods regarding foreclosed or abandoned
properties. Matt Denney suggested “We Care”
as a theme for this effort. Activities may include
calling or writing the Banks and/or listing Realtors of
properties that are in need of care before they become
eyesores. Adjacent neighbors could also pitch-in and
cleanup litter, pickup newspapers, etc. It was also suggested
that local schools (Summit/High Lakes) be contacted regarding
student Community Service hours to assist in this
project. A Neighborhood Watch program was discussed as an
additional implement that could be employed in neighborhoods to
assist as needed.
As an aside to the above concern, the
continually free-thinking, erudite Chair (M D) enlightened
those in attendance of the celebrated “Broken
Window” psychological consequence of
inaction.

BOARD MEETING – August 29,
2008 Cascade Lakes Brewery, Century
Drive
Meeting called to order 6:40 PM
Attendees: Matt Denney, Chair; Deborah Price,
Vice-Chair; Fletcher Chamberlin, Treasurer; Jerry Price,
Secretary; SWNA Member(s): Linda Johnson
Members Deborah and Jerry Price volunteered to
represent SWNA interests at meetings of the City of Bend
Traffic Safety Advisory Committee.
Matt Denney reported that each Neighborhood
Association is now only required to have one General Meeting
per year, though more general meetings may be scheduled as
deemed necessary.
Conversation followed regarding date, purpose or
goal of the next General Meeting, possibly arranging a dual
meeting with partner NA(s). After discussion it was
decided that a meeting at which candidates for local office
would come and address NA members and answer questions would be
informative, educational and a benefit to our members.
Matt will contact officers of the other partner NAs to
determine if a mutual meeting time and location could be
arranged.
Concern was expressed regarding a disconnect
from members of the community going on-line to sign-up or
requesting information from the neighborhood associations and
that request not being forwarded to the officers of
SWNA. Question: How are we going to get the word out to
those who have been “lost” not ignored?
Possibly a postcard sent out to all households in the
SWNA area asking for e-mail addresses. Matt will look into
this.
Website and Member Management – looking
for a qualified volunteer from the
membership. Alternative: Matt will contact Summit West HS
and COCC regarding internships or a student project (no cost to
SWNA) to help maintain and further develop our SWNA
website.
Discussion regarding signing up local
neighborhood businesses as members of SWNA, placing a
recognition “sticker” We Are Members of
SWNA on their doors and encouraging members of the
Association to shop “local”. Win/Win
– need a volunteer leader for this effort.
Meeting Adjourned 7:50 PM
Respectfully submitted: Jerry Price,
Secretary - SWNA
